At GDL Co we believe that effective and contemporary garden design should not only enhance the relationship between the buildings and the garden, but also the wider landscape around them. We achieve this connection between people and place through the harmonious use of plants and materials.
From small garden design to country house estates
Our portfolio of work includes a wide range of garden designs from contemporary roof terraces to large country gardens. Our gardens like many at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show are recognised for their strong, clean, architectural lines, lush planting, and elegant styling and use of colour. We also specialise in discreet but effective garden lighting and bespoke water features.
We work collaboratively with our clients, listening to their needs, to ensure that the garden design brief is clear and is interpreted correctly in the finished plan. Our aim is to create a garden design that reflects your personal style and practical needs; a garden that is perfect for you – one which will add value to your home and bring you years of enjoyment. It will reflect as closely as possible the styling, decoration and colour palette of your London home so that there is a strong visual relationship between the inside and outside spaces.
Garden design and landscaping
With a keen eye for detail and a strong emphasis on quality and craftsmanship, we work exclusively with trusted professional landscapers and water feature and garden lighting specialists who will bring your garden design to life and build your garden to the highest standard possible. They are adept at implementing water features and include lighting design specialists. This ensures that the garden design process, from initial concept to project completion, is smooth and seamless.
Our design service
We will meet with you initially to discuss your ideas and requirements, whilst also taking numerous pictures and measurements of your garden. This will allow us to go back and design the perfect garden for your London home.
The designs will then be drawn up in colour, by hand and presented to you at a follow up meeting. Any amendments or revisions can be made to the designs at this point.
Following final submission of the designs to you and sign off, we will work with specialist landscape gardeners, garden builders and lighting specialists to bring your garden to life.
Our Chief garden designer
Rosie is very passionate about plants and spatial design, and makes a point of taking great care in making sure each of her designs give clients exactly what they want, whether its a contemporary urban chill out garden for a busy professional or a safe, cost effective child friendly space for a new Mum.
Garden design qualifications
Rosie has a BSc 2:1 Botany degree from Manchester. Following this she trained during 2009 at KLC school of design in Hampton Court learning about exciting plants to use in gardens, materials and how to specify them, construction techniques that ensure a well built and long lasting garden and contract administration on large build projects.
Whilst at KLC Rosie was selected as the winner of a competition (against 40 fully qualified designers) to create a planting area at Chelsea Flower Show; designing, sourcing and planting a small bed for Design Nation.
During her training phase Rosie worked as a garden labourer in Chelsea gardens maintaining the chicest of chic spaces and learning a huge amount about the logistics of maintenance which need to be considered in the design (These include answering important questions such as, will the lawnmower fit on the path? Is there space to mow the lawn? etc).
Following this she worked in Hardy’s cottage garden plants nursery where she witnessed the love that goes into growing plants for your garden – and in her own words ‘met some of the best horticulturalists in the world’.
